In the book of Judges we learned how, “the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Did not I deliver you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines? The Zidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and you cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand. Yet you have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no more”, and in chapter ten and verse fourteen of Judges, we learn howJehovah God told Israel, “Go and cry unto the gods which you have chosen” where we read,
Go and cry unto the gods which you have chosen;
let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.
The verse reads, “Go and cry unto the gods which you have chosen;” The writer began with the words, “go and cry unto the gods” which means “depart and proceed forward and shout aloud, join together and call for help to the deities” “which you have chosen” which means ”that you, the people of Israel, have elected, decided for and selected”. The writer shared how Jehovah God told the people of “Israel” to proceed and call for help from the deities whom they selected.
The verse continues, “let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.” The writer added the words, “let them deliver you” which means “allow and permit them, the deities the people of Israel selected, to rescue and save the people of Israel” “in the time of your tribulation” or “within the occurrence and occasion pertaining to your, the people of Israel’s, straits, distress, vexation and trouble’, ”. The writer shared how Jehovah God told the people of “Israel” to allow their deities they chose to rescue and save them in their occasion of distress and trouble.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God instructed the people of “Israel” to proceed and call for help from the deities they chose and allow those deities to to save them from their trials and troubles. We can almost sense the frustration Jehovah God had with the people of Israel always wanting Him to help them in their troubles but as soon as He does, they abandon Him again. God’s patience and understanding is amazing, and He is long-suffering toward those He loves. He wants to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and equip us with His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and give us the mindset to always rely upon Him and never forsake Him for deities who cannot save. (See John 3:16; Colossians 1:13-14)
Next time we learn how, “the children of Israel said unto the LORD, We have sinned”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
