Judah and Jerusalem Forever Joel 3:20

As Joel the prophet continued to share how the LORD would “roar” and use His “voice” against the opposing “nation” to Judah, he declared how the “mountains, hills, rivers and fountains” would be affected by it. He also shared how “Egypt and Edom” would be made “desolate” because of their “violence against the children of Judah” and “because they have shed innocent blood in their land”. In chapter three and verse twenty of his prophesy, Joel told how “Judah” and “Jerusalem” “shall dwell forever” where we read:

But Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation.

The verse begins, “But Judah shall dwell for ever,...” Joel began, “But Judah” which means “praised” and refers to “the kingdom comprised of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin which occupied the southern part of Canaan after the nation split upon the death of Solomon“shall dwell” or “remain, sit, abide, be set and have one's abode” “forever” which means “for antiquity, futurity, evermore, perpetual, ancient, always, everlasting, indefinite, unending future and for eternity”. Joel declared the people of Judah to last “forever” in contrast to their opposing nations.

The verse continues, “...and Jerusalem from generation to generation.” Joel added, “and Jerusalem” which means “teaching of peace” and is “the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split“from generation to generation” which is twice used in Hebrew and is the word “dowr” which means “a period, habitation and dwelling characterized by quality, condition and class of men”. In addition to the nation of “Judah”, the city of “Jerusalem” is promised perpetuity as well.

When we consider these words of Joel, we see the contrast between “Judah and Jerusalem” and the nations who opposed them such as “Egypt and Edom”. The LORD promises perpetuity to His people, and “desolation” for those opposing them. Is it any wonder that God Almighty will do so to those who reject His Son Jesus? Let us allow the LORD to impress our minds with the fact that He is “for” those who are “for” Him and His people, and He is strongly against those who are against them.

Next time we finish the book of Joel as he shares how the LORD “will cleanse their blood that” He has “not cleansed”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
