Joel the prophet declared
the words of the LORD to “put in the sickle” because “the
harvest is ripe”. The LORD said, “get you down, for the
press is full, the fats overflow” because “the wickedness”
of the invading nations “is great”. In
chapter three and verse fourteen of his prophesy, Joel shared how
there are “multitudes, multitudes”
in the “valley of decision”
where we read:
Multitudes, multitudes
in the valley of decision:
for the day of the LORD
is near in the valley of decision.
The verse begins, “Multitudes,
multitudes in the valley of decision:” Joel
twice wrote the word, “Multitudes”
which is the Greek words “hamown, hamown” means
“crowd, abundance, rush, roar, tumult, great number and confusion”
“in the valley” or
“vale, lowland and open country” “of decision”
which means “strict, incised, incisive and pointed choice”. This
huge number of people were gathered in the “lowland” which the
LORD named “the valley of decision”.
The
verse goes on to say, “for the day of the LORD is
near in the valley of decision.” Joel continued, “for the
day” which means “time, year, division of time and period”
“of the LORD” which refers to “Yehovah or Jehovah who is
the existing One and the proper name for the one true God” “is
near” or “at hand, next, nigh and more ready ” “in the
valley” which means “vale, lowland and open country” “of
decision” or “strict, incised, incisive and pointed choice”.
This mighty warning and promise from the LORD is that people would be
brought together for “judgment” by Him.
When we
think through these words of Joel, this must be an ominous scene. Can
we imagine so many people in this valley? Let us notice, it is “the
valley of decision” where people have to make a choice, and it
not only has and will occur, it is symbolic of people having a
certain time in which to make a “decision” for or against
Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son. May all who read these words
take heed and realize “the valley of decision” they are in
is now.
