In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones”, and in chapter fourteen and verse thirty-one of Proverbs Solomon said, “He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker” where we read,
He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker: but he that honors him has mercy on the poor.
The verse begins, “He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker:” Solomon began with the words, “he that oppresses” or “the person whether male or female who presses upon, wrongs, extorts and violently defrauds” “the poor” which means “people who are impoverished, weak and lowly” “reproaches his Maker” or “taunts, blasphemes, defies, jeopardizes, upbraids and rails upon his, the person's, the one who fashioned, made and produced the person”. Solomon shared how the person who violently defrauds people who are impoverished blasphemes and defies their Creator.
The verse goes on to say, “but he that honors him has mercy on the poor.” Solomon continued with the words, “but he that honors him” or “however, notwithstanding, nonetheless and moreover the person whether male or female who glorifies him, his Maker or Creator” “has mercy on the poor” which means “has pity, compassion and favor upon people who are impoverished, weak and lowly”. Solomon said the person who glorifies their “Maker” or “Creator” has pity, compassion and favor upon people who are impoverished and weak.
When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we discover how important it is to Jehovah God that we have compassion upon people who are impoverished, weak and lowly. If we don't, we are upbraiding and blaspheming Jehovah God Himself. God made us, and His desire is to have a personal intimate relationship with everyone regardless of their financial position or status. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and Jesus was raised from the dead three days later so every person could be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and taught to value Him as they give “honor” to people who are “weak and lowly” in the world.
Next time Solomon says, “the wicked is driven away in his wickedness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
