Wisdom is Too High for a Fool - Proverbs 24:7

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A wise man is strong; yes, a man of knowledge increases strength. For by wise counsel you shall make your war: and in the multitude of counsellors there is safety, and in chapter twenty-four and verse seven of Proverbs Solomon said, “wisdom is too high for a fool” where we read,

Wisdom is too high for a fool:

he opens not his mouth in the gate.

The verse begins, “Wisdom is too high for a fool: Solomon began with the words, “wisdom is too high” or “skill, shrewdness and prudence exists as lofty, exalted and uplifted” “for a fool” which means “for a person whether male or female who is quarrelsome, licentious and mocking when guilty”. Solomon said skill, shrewdness and prudence is too lofty and uplifted for a person who is quarrelsome and licentious.

The verse continues, “he opens not his mouth in the gate.” Solomon added the words, “he opens not his mouth” or “he, the foolish person, does not let loose, set free or throw open his, the foolish person's orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking” “in the gate” which means “within the entrance, opening, marketplace or public meeting location of a city or town”. Solomon said the “foolish person” has nothing to say among the leaders within the marketplace or entrance of a city.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how skill, shrewdness and prudence are exalted and beyond the person who is foolish and quarrelsome. When they are among leaders within the entrance of a city or business center of a town, they have nothing to say. God wants us to be “wise”, and He provides His “wisdom”through His word – the Bible. He gave us His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide us with knowledge and understanding so we speak as He desires when we are among people in the center of commerce within our cities.

Next time Solomon shares about, “he that devises to do evil”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
