Considering the Cause of the Poor - Proverbs 29:7

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “in the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous does sing and rejoice”, and in chapter twenty-nine and verse seven of Proverbs Solomon said, “the righteous considers the cause of the poor” where we read,

The righteous considers the cause of the poor:

but the wicked regard not to know it.

The verse begins, The righteous considers the cause of the poor: Solomon began with the words, “the righteous” or “the people who are right, just, lawful and correct” “considers the cause of the poor” which means “knows, perceives, finds out, discerns and discriminates the dispute, strife, plea or legal suit belonging to people who are impoverished, in want, in need and destitute”. Solomon said people who are lawful and correct perceive the strife and plea of people who are impoverished.

The verse continues, “but the wicked regard not to know it. Solomon added the words, “but the wicked” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover people who are criminal, guilty of crime, evil and hostile to God” “regard not to know it” which means “do not discern, understand, perceive or observe the plea or strife of the impoverished”. Solomon said people who are evil and hostile to God do not discern or understand the plight of the impoverished.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there is a vast difference between people who are lawful and correct who pay attention to the needs of the destitute and the evil people who do not perceive or observe them. God knows the needs of everyone, and because we all sin, we are spiritually impoverished. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and make us aware of people in need as He cleanses us from unrighteousness and makes us more like Him. (See 1 John 1:9)

Next time Solomon says, “scornful men bring a city into a snare”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
