Who has Ascended Up into Heaven? - Proverbs 30:4

In the book of Proverbs the Agur said, “I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy”, and in chapter thirty and verse four of Proverbs Agur asked, “who has ascended up into the heaven” where we read,

Who has ascended up into heaven, or descended?

Who has gathered the wind in his fist?

Who has bound the waters in a garment?

Who has established all the ends of the earth?

What is his name, and what is his son's name, if you can tell?

The verse begins, Who has ascended up into heaven, or descended? The writer began with the words, “who has ascended up” or “what person whether male or female has gone up, climbed and risen” “into heaven” which means “into the visible sky, atmosphere, place of the stars and abode of God”, “or descended” or “or declined, sunken or laid prostrate”? Agur asked what person has risen into the abode of God or sunken down.

The verse goes on to say, “Who has gathered the wind in his fist? Agur continued the words, “who has gathered the wind” or “what person has removed, collected and assembled a breath of air, gas or the mind and spirit” “in his fist” which means “within the person's hallow of the hand”? Agur asked what person has assembled and collected a breath of air or the mind and spirit within their grasp.

The verse continues, Who has bound the waters in a garment?” Agur added the words, “who has bound the waters” or “what person whether male or female has besieged, straitened or shut up the water courses, springs or floods” “in a garment” which means “within a mantle, wrapper or clothes”? Agur asked what person was able to shut up the watercourses and floods within clothing.

The verse goes on to say, “Who has established all the ends of the earth?” Agur continued with the words, “who has established” or “what person whether male or female has stood, risen, maintained and fixed” “all the ends” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the ceasing, finality and cessation” “of the earth” or “belonging to the territory, region, field and world”? Agur asked what person has fixed and maintained each and every one of the cessations in the world.

Finally the verse says, “What is his name, and what is his son's name, if you can tell?” Agur added the words, “what is his name” or “even so and indeed what is his, the One who established all the ends of the earth's, fame, reputation and glory”, “and what is his son's name” which means “even so and indeed what is his, the One who established all the ends of the earth's, prodigy or offspring's fame, reputation and glory”? “If you can tell” or “whether and in case you, Agur's readers and listeners, are able and capable of knowing, perceiving, discerning and distinguishing”? Agur ended this verse by asking what were the fames, reputations and glories of the One and His son who “established all the ends of the earth”.

When we mediate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Agur questioned what person “ascended into heaven or descended”, assembled a breath of air into their palm, bound the flood waters in clothing and fixed in place the cessations belonging to the world. He wanted someone to tell him the “name” of this great One and His Son. His name is Jehovah God, and His Son's name is Jesus. Because He created everything, all of the above questions are answered in Him. God loves people, and He created this world so we may have an opportunity to be in a personal relationship with Him. He gave His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of knowing Him and His Son Jesus throughout all eternity.

Next time Agur says, “every word of God is pure”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
