In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the righteous considers the cause of the poor: but the wicked regard not to know it”, and in chapter twenty-nine and verse eight of Proverbs Solomon said, “scornful men bring a city into a snare” where we read,
Scornful men bring a city into a snare:
but wise men turn away wrath.
The verse begins, “Scornful men bring a city into a snare:” Solomon began with the words, “scornful men” or “scoffing, mocking and contemptuous people whether male or female” “bring a city” which means “lead, carry forth and stir a location of people, village or town” “into a snare” or “to a blowing or blaze”. Solomon said people who are contemptuous and mocking will stir up or agitate a town or location of people.
The verse goes on to say, “but wise men turn away wrath.” Solomon continued with the words, “but wise men” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover people who are skilled, shrewd and prudent” “turn away wrath” which means “reject, refuse and lead anger that wrinkles the nostrils and nose separate and apart from the town”. Solomon said people who are skilled and prudent will refuse and reject anger and rage.
When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we discover that people who scoff and mock have power to agitate an entire town of people, however, a shrewd person leads the town away from anger and rage. God wants us to be “wise”, and He will give His wisdom to all who ask Him. (See James 1:5) God wants an intimate personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for our sins. When we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the wisdom to “turn away wrath” and never be among those who “scorn and mock” and “stir up” others by doing so.
Next time Solomon says, “a wise man contends with a foolish man”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
