Not Learning Wisdom or Knowledge of the Holy - Proverbs 30:3

In the book of Proverbs the Agur said, “surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man”, and in chapter thirty and verse three of Proverbs Agur said, “I neither learned wisdom” where we read,

I neither learned wisdom,

nor have the knowledge of the holy.

The verse begins, I neither learned wisdom, ... The writer began with the words, “I neither learned” or “I, Agur, was not taught or trained in” “wisdom” which means “skill, shrewdness and prudence” nor the following. Agur said he was not trained in skill and prudence.

The verse continues, “... nor have the knowledge of the holy. Agur added the words, “nor have the knowledge” or “no and not in any way hold, own or possess perception, discernment or cunning” “of the holy” which means “pertaining to the set apart or morally and ceremonially sacred”. Agur said he wasn't trained or taught in the discernment of that which is morally and ceremonially sacred.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Agur that he was not trained in skill, prudence or discernment within sacred things. God wants us to know Him, and He gave us His word, the Bible, so we may “learn” His “wisdom”and “have the knowledge of the holy”. When He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, whoever believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and guided by His Holy Spirit into the truth of His “wisdom” and “knowledge” according to His Divine purpose and plan. (See John 16:13)

Next time Agur asks, “who has ascended up into the heaven”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
