In the book of Proverbs Agur asked, “Who has ascended up into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in his fist? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name, if you can tell?”, and in chapter thirty and verse five of Proverbs Agur said, “every word of God is pure” where we read,
Every word of God is pure:
he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
The verse begins, “Every word of God is pure:” Agur began with the words, “every word of God” or “each, all, the whole and everyone of the sayings, speeches, declarations and proclamations belonging to the One True Deity” “is pure” which means “exists as tested and refined”. Agur said all of the speeches and declarations of the One True Deity are sincere and refined.
The verse continues, “he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” Agur added words, “he is a shield” or “he, the One True God, exists as a buckler, protector and defense” “unto them” which means “toward the people whether male or female” “that put their trust in him” or “who seek refuge, flee for protection and confide within him, the One True God”. Agur said the One True God exists as a protector and defense to people who confide in Him.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Agur not only that Jehovah God's declarations are refined and sincere, but also that He become the protector and defense to everyone who places their faith and confidence within Him. God loves people, and He desires to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and reveal His “pure words” to us as He becomes our defense through His Holy Spirit. (See John 16:13)
Next time Agur says, “add you not unto his words”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
