No Evil For Whoever Keeps the Commandment - Ecclesiastes 8:5

In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon said, “Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What do you?”, and in chapter eight and verse five of his book Solomon said, “whoso keeps the commandment shall feel no evil thing” where we read,

Whoso keeps the commandment shall feel no evil thing:

and a wise man's heart discerns both time and judgment.

The verse reads, “Whoso keeps the commandment shall feel no evil thing:” Solomon began with the words, “whoso keeps the commandment” or “whatever person whether male or female who guards, protects, observes and obeys the precept, ordinance and law” “shall feel no evil thing” which means “will know, perceive, learn, distinguish or experience not a bad, disagreeable, malignant, unpleasant or displeasing act, deed or speech”. Solomon said the person who obeys the law will not experience an unpleasant or wicked act or deed.

The verse continues, “and a wise man's heart discerns both time and judgment.” Solomon added the words, “and a wise man’s heart” or “and a person whether male or female who possesses a skilled, shrewd and prudent soul and mind” “discerns both time” which means “perceives, discriminates, distinguishes and recognizes the certain occasion and occurrence” “and judgment” or “and justice, righteousness, ordinance, procedure and litigation”. Solomon said the person who possesses a skilled and prudent soul and mind will recognize particular occurrences and procedures.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there is an advantage to obeying the “law” of God and authorities. Those who observe the rules are less likely to experience bad consequences, and the person who is skilled and prudent will recognize occasions and procedures in which these acts and deeds may occur. God wants us to align with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us by His Holy Spirit to be guided into His laws and ways and empowered to live within them.

Next time Solomon says, “to every purpose there is time and judgment”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
