He that Shall Come Hebrews 10:37

The writer of Hebrews told his readers, “you have need of patience” because after they “have done the will of God” they “might receive the promise” of “recompense of reward” . In chapter ten and verse thirty-seven of Hebrews the writer shares how “he that shall come will come” where we read:

For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

The verse begins, For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come,...”. The writer began with the word, “For” which means “even as, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore” “yet a little while” or “still and even now for a small length of time”, “and he that shall come” which means “the one who appears and makes his appearance from another place” “will come” or “shall arrive and be present”. Though there was to be a delay, there was to be a time when Jesus Christ would come back again.

The verse continues, “...and will not tarry.”. The writer added the words, “and will not” or “shall not” “tarry” which means “linger, delay or take more time”. Once Jesus initiates His coming back again, there will be no more or longer a “delay”.

When we consider these words in Hebrews, we see the “promise” given by God that Jesus would return again. (See Acts 1) The idea continues with the Hebrew readers continuing to have “patience” while serving Him at the same time. Jesus will come again, and once He begins His descent into the world, there will longer be a “delay or lingering” to His return. May we, like the Hebrew readers, have “patience” to endure and continue our work in the Kingdom of God till He returns.

Next time the writer shares how “the just shall live by faith”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
