The Holy Ghost's Signifying Hebrews 9:8

The writer of the book of Hebrews shared how the “high priest” went “alone once a year, not without blood which he offered for himself”, and then offered “blood” “for the errors of the people”. In chapter nine and verse eight of Hebrews the writer shares how each of the contents within the tabernacle were used in “The Holy Ghost this signifying” where we read:

The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest,
while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:

The verse begins, “The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest,...”. The writer began with the words, “The Holy Ghost” which refers to “the pure, morally, religiously and ceremonially blameless, consecrated third person of the triune God who is coequal and coeternal with the Father and the Son” “this signifying” or “the same declares, shows and makes manifest”, “that the way” which refers to “the journey, road, way travelled and course of conduct” “into the holiest of all” which means “into the reverend, worthy of veneration, sacred, set apart, pure, sinless and upright holy” “was not yet made” or “was not made visible or known and was hidden or unknown, not manifest whether by words, deeds or in any other way”. The “Holy Spirit” of God showed the way to the “Holy of Holies” within heaven was not yet revealed.

The verse continues, “...while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:”. The writer added the words, “while as the first” or “during the time, place, succession, influence and honor” “tabernacle” which means “the well known tent which was the moveable temple of God after the pattern of which the temple at Jerusalem was built”, “was yet standing” or “was still, beside and further in position, stationed and stated”. As long as the “first tabernacle” was still in place, the true way to the heavenly “Holy of Holies” was not shown.

When we consider these words in Hebrews, we see the importance of replacement of the “old” or “former” “tabernacle”. The “new covenant” was brought in when Jesus offered Himself as the “high priest” and “sacrifice” for our sins within the “heavenly Holy of Holies”. This made the “first tabernacle” obsolete, and now the pathway to heaven has been made easier for us when we believe and trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord. Not only did God the Father declare it, and Jesus speak it, but “The Holy Spirit” Himself bears witness to this great truth.

Next time the writer shares how these things were “a figure for the time then present”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
