Blessed are the Pure in Heart Matthew 5:8

Matthew shared how Jesus was “baptized” and “tempted” by the “devil”, and he shared how “angels” ministered to Him afterward. Jesus heard that John the Baptist was thrown into prison, and He left His hometown to dwell in “Capernaum” where He began His ministry. Jesus began to preach saying, “Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand”, and He called Peter, Andrew, James and John to be His followers. As Jesus' fame spread throughout Galilee many others were gathered unto Him, and Matthew continued to write, “And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him, and he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy, and in chapter five and verse eight of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus said, “blessed are the pure in heart” where we read:

Blessed
are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

The verse reads, Blessed are the pure in heart: Matthew began with the word, “blessed” which means “oh how happy, supremely fortunate and well off” “are the pure” or “are the clean, free from every admixture of what is false, sincere, genuine, blameless and innocent” “in heart” which refers to “in the center and seat of spiritual life which includes the soul or mind as it is the fountain and seat of the thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, affections, purposed and endeavors”. Jesus turned His attention to those who have “clean, blameless and genuine” “hearts”.

The verse continues, for they shall see God.” Matthew added the words, “for they” which means “because, since and on account the pure in heart” “shall see God “” or “will look at, behold be allowed to view the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised those who are “pure in heart” will be “allowed to view” God Himself .

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how people who have an “unadulterated heart” will be allowed to “see God”. Each “beatitude” presented by Jesus exhibits characteristics of people within the “Kingdom of God”, and those who display them shall reap the benefits. God desires to have a relationship with every person, and He wants them to be “pure in heart” so they might “see God”. This is accomplished by having a relationship with Jesus Christ, and He is ready to receive and give aid to every person who will yield themselves to Him.

Next time Jesus tells His disciples, “blessed are the peacemakers”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
