Jesus in Capernaum Matthew 4:13

Matthew shared how Jesus was “baptized” and “tempted” by the “devil”. Matthew continued, “Then the devil left him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him. Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee, and in chapter four and verse thirteen of his book, Matthew shares how Jesus “left Nazareth” and “came and dwelt in Capernaum” where we read:

And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum,

which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:

The verse reads, And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, ... Matthew began with the words, “and leaving” which means “departing and forsaking” “Nazareth” or “the ordinary residence and home town of Christ which means the guarded one”, “he came” which means “Jesus approached and appeared” “and dwelt” or “and settled, inhabited and lived” “in Capernaum” which refers to “a flourishing city of Galilee situated on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee or Lake of Gennesaret near the place where the Jordan flows into the lake which means village of comfort”. Matthew shared how Jesus left His home town and began to live in “Capernaum”.

The verse continues, ... which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: ” Matthew added the words, “which is upon the sea coast” or “that is along and beside the coast of the sea”, “in the boarders” which means “within the region, district, land and territory” “of Zabulon” or “a region of Palestine which means a habitation” “and Nephthalim” which refers to “a tribe in Palestine which means wrestling”. Matthew shared how “Capernaum” was a village on the “sea coast” within the “boundaries” of the lands “of Zabulon and Nephthalim”.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus set up His headquarters for ministry in the “sea coast” town of “Capernaum”. From this base of operations, Jesus would travel throughout the land of Israel and share about the “Kingdom of God”. Each of these changes in Jesus' life were predestined by God, and through His obedience, Jesus is the “Christ” and “Savior” of the world. Let all who read these words understand that each move and detail in Jesus' life was meant to bring “salvation” to mankind, and those who put their “faith and trust” in Him shall receive “everlasting life” where God has plans for all eternity.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus going to “Capernaum” “fulfilledanother prophecy by Isaiah Jesus so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
