The
Hebrew writer directed his readers to “salute
all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints”.
He also shared how “they of Italy
salute”
them. In chapter thirteen and verse
twenty-five of Hebrews, the writer gave a benediction to his readers
- “grace
be with you all” where
we read:
“Grace
be with you all. Amen”
The
verse begins, “Grace
be with you all.”. The
writer began with the word, “grace”
which is
the Greek word “charis”
and means “that which affords joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness,
charm, loveliness and unmerited favor” “be
with you”
or “be with the readers” “all”
which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of them”. The
final charge the writer extended toward his readers was for “grace”
or unmerited
favor to be with each and every one of them.
The
verse continues, “Amen”.
The writer
added the word, “Amen”
which means “faithful, verily, surely, truly and of a truth; so it
is and so be it”. The writer concluded his letter with the word
“Amen”
which solidified the idea of “so it is” and “so be it”.
When
we consider these words in Hebrews, we understand what a fitting end
this is to this wonderful book. The “grace” of God was the
drive behind sending Jesus Christ to be sacrificed and offered for
our sins, and Jesus was and is superior to every other religious act,
person, ceremony or pattern. “So it is” and “So be it” that
believing in Jesus Christ as the sacrifice and offering for our sins
gives access to “eternal life” for all who “trust in,
rely upon and cling to” Him.
Next
time we
begin a new book written by Paul the apostle, First Corinthians,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
