The
writer of Hebrews referred to when God's “voice then
shook the earth”, and how He
promised to “shake not the earth only, but also heaven”.
In chapter twelve and verse twenty-seven of Hebrews the writer
shared how God “shook”
these things “ that those things which cannot be shaken
may remain” where we read:
And this
word, Yet
once more, signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as
of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may
remain.
The
verse begins, “And this word,
Yet once more, signifies the removing of those things that are
shaken,...”. The
writer began with the words, “And
this word”
which means “still, even now and that which continues at present”,
“Yet once more”
or “once and for all”, “signifies”
which means “makes manifest, declares, gives one to understand and
indicates” “the removing”
or “the transfer from one place to another things instituted or
established” “of those things that
are shaken” or
“things moved, agitated and caused to totter by winds, storms or
waves”. Still another time the Lord was to “shake”
everything that could be shaken to remove the impermanent things.
The
verse continues, “...as of things that are made, that
those things which cannot be shaken may remain”. The
writer added the words, “as of things that are made”
which means “like and even as things that are produced,
constructed, formed, fashioned or prepared”, “that
those things which cannot” which
means “lest, God forbid, neither, never and nothing things that are
not able to” “be shaken”
or “moved, agitated and caused to totter by winds, storms or waves”
“may remain” which
means “abide, tarry, not depart, continue, be kept, not perish and
endure continually”. God's purpose was to remove all the things
which will not “remain”
to reveal the those that abide.
When
we consider these words in Hebrews, we realize how God is interested
in removing the “temporary” for the “eternal” things. He sent
His Son Jesus Christ to offer “eternal” permanence to people's
lives, and sometimes when the Lord “shakes” everything in
their lives it is to reveal that which remains and shall last forever
and ever with Him. If the Lord God is “shaking” right now, let us
realize, He only does so to remove those things that should not be.
Next
time the writer shares about “receiving
a kingdom which cannot be moved”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
