According
to the Hebrew writer, his readers were to “Remember
them which have the rule over”
them and especially those “who have
spoken unto”
them “the word of God”.
They were also to “consider well” “the
end” of
the lives of those “faith-filled”
authorities.
In chapter thirteen and verse eight of
Hebrews, the writer shared
how Jesus is “the same yesterday, and
to day, and for ever”
where we read:
Jesus
Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
The
verse begins, “Jesus Christ the same
yesterday,...”. The
writer began with the words, “Jesus”
whose name
means “Jehovah is Salvation” and refers to “the Son of God, the
Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “Christ”
which means
“the anointed One, the Messiah and Son of God”“the
same” or
“just as he was and is and shall be” “yesterday”
which means “the day before the current day”. Jesus is just the
way He was “yesterday”.
The
verse continues, “...and
to day, and for ever.”. The
writer added the words, “and to day”
or “this
current and happening day” “and for
ever”
which means “and towards the unbroken age, perpetuity of time,
eternity and period and age without end”. Jesus is the
“same”
as He was before, now and in the future.
When we meditate upon
these words in Hebrews, we see the unchangeable nature of God. Jesus
is always “the same”,
and He never alters His character in any way. The constancy of God
should comfort us because as He has been, He shall always be. Jesus
Christ is a “saving, redeeming” God, and He desires to give
“salvation” to everyone who will believe. No one is exempt from
the far reaching hand of the “eternal, never changing” God. Only
He can save, and His desire is to do so. Let all praise and glory be
given to God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son who declared, “For
I am the LORD, I change not;” (Malachi
3:6)
Next
time the writer exhorts his readers not to be “carried
about with divers and strange doctrines.”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
