According
to the writer of Hebrews, “we
receiving a kingdom which cannot be move”
are to “have grace, whereby we may
serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear”.
In chapter twelve and verse twenty-nine of
Hebrews the writer concludes
“our God is a Consuming Fire” where
we read:
For our
God is a
consuming fire.
The
verse begins, “For our God...”. The
writer began with the word, “For”
which means “even as, indeed, seeing then, no doubt, verily and
therefore” “our God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. The writer
referred to the only One and True God.
The
verse goes on to say, “...is a
consuming fire”. The
writer continued with the words, “is
a consuming” or
“devouring” “fire”
which means “fiery lightning”. God is like a “devouring”
“fire”.
When
we consider these words in Hebrews, we understand that nothing is
able to stand before the power of God. God is able to “consume”
or “devour” everything He desires, and anything which is
undesirable, He may remove. Jesus, God's only begotten Son, is the
only holy and righteous person to approach Almighty God, and because
He went before His Father on our behalf, we have access to God.
Thanks be to Jesus who provided our entrance into heaven without
being “consumed” by God's powerful “fire”.
Next
time we begin a new chapter and see the writer exhort his readers to
“Let
brotherly love continue”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
