Paul
the apostle desired that the church members in Corinth “come
behind in no gift”
while they were “waiting for the
coming of our Lord Jesus Christ”,
and in chapter one and verse eight of
First Corinthians, Paul continued his letter by declaring that God
would
“confirm” the
church members “unto the
end”
where we read:
The verse begins, “Who
shall also confirm you unto the end,...”
Paul began
with the words, “Who shall also
confirm”
which is the Greek phrase “hos
bebaioō kai bebaioō” that
means “God
shall make firm, establish and make sure” “you”
which refers to the Corinthian church members “” “unto
the end”
which means “until the termination or limit at which a thing ceases
to be, the last in succession or series and that by which a thing is
finished and closed to which all things relate, aim and purpose”.
Paul promised that God would “establish” the church members in
Corinth “until the completion” of everything that may be
completed.
The
verse continues, “...that
you may be blameless in the day of
our Lord Jesus Christ.”. Paul
added the words, “that you may be
blameless” or
“so the church members cannot be called into account, un-reprovable
and un-accused” “in the day”
which literally means “daytime” and metaphorically means “the
time for abstaining from indulgence, vice and crime because acts of
the sort are perpetrated at night and in darkness” “of
our Lord”
or “the One of whom Paul and the church members' belonged who has
power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah,”
“Jesus”
which means “Jehovah is Salvation” and is “the Son of God, the
Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “Christ”
or “the anointed one, the Messiah and the Son of God”.
When
we think through these words from Paul, we may marvel at the
long-suffering and passionate “grace” of God through His
Son Jesus Christ. Not only did He desire to “save” the church
members in Corinth from their sins, but He “confirmed” or
“established” them in their “faith” so they would be
“blameless” or “un-reprovable and un- accused” when
“the day of the Lord” comes. In other words, they were to
remain “saved” and “faultless” before God Almighty until the
“end” of all things as they knew it. Only God could give
such provision for people, and those who receive His Son Jesus as
Savior and Lord are given these same promises as the Corinthian
church members. May all who read these words know and believe the
“enduring” compassion and “established” salvation provided
through Jesus Christ.
Next
time Paul declares “God is
faithful, by whom you were called”
as he refers to the people within the Corinthian church, so read
ahead, and we shall join together then.
