“We have
an altar”
according to the writer of Hebrews that people who are not believers
in Jesus in which “they have no right
to eat”.
In chapter thirteen and verse eleven of
Hebrews the writer shared
concerning “the
bodies of those beast” and
their “blood”
which were offered “by the high
priest for sin”
where we read:
For
the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought
into
the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the
camp.
The
verse begins, “For
the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary
by the high priest for sin,...”.
The writer
began with the words, “For the
bodies”
which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore the corpses” “of those
beasts”
which refers to “the living and brute animals”, “whose
blood”
which means “bloodshed” “is
brought”
or “lead or carried” “into the
sanctuary”
which refers to “the holy or holiest place” “by
the high priest”
or “by the chief priest” “for
sin” which
means “missing the mark, error or mistake”. The writer referenced
the sacrifices of the animals which were slain and whose “blood”
was offered in the “sanctuary”
by the “high priest”.
The
verse goes on to say, “...are
burned without the camp”. The
writer continued with the words, “are
burned” or
“are consumed with fire” “without”
which means “outside of” “the
camp” which
refers to “the encampment of Israel in the desert”. The animals
which were offered for “sin”
by the high priest were “sacrificed”
outside of the encampment of Israel.
When
we meditate upon these words in Hebrews, we see the writer's
reference to the sacrifice of animals that were offered by the “high
priests”
according to the law - “And
he shall carry forth the bullock without the camp, and burn him as he
burned the first bullock: it is
a sin offering for the congregation.” (See
Leviticus 4:17)
This was the “sin offering”
which was not to be offered within the “camp
of Israel”
but rather carried outside where the people set up their encampment.
We shall see how this became a symbol for the way Jesus would be
offered for our “sins”,
and those who are wise shall see the all-knowing and extensive plan
of salvation provided for us.
Next
time the writer shares with his readers how Jesus “suffered
outside the gate”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
