The Testimony of Christ Confirmed 1 Corinthians 1:6

Paul the apostle desired “that in every thing” the people within the church of Corinth were “enriched by” God “in all utterance, and in all knowledge”, and in chapter one and verse six of First Corinthians, Paul continued the introduction to his letter sharing how “the testimony of Christ was confirmed” in the church members where we read:

Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:

The verse begins, Even as the testimony of Christ ...” Paul began with the words, “Even as” which means “according as, just as, in proportion as, in the degree that and since” “the testimony” or “the witness” “of Christ” which means “the anointed one” and is “the Messiah and the Son of God”. Paul referred to the “witness” of Jesus as he shared his next conclusion.

The verse continues, “...was confirmed in you:”. Paul added the words, “was confirmed” or “made firm, established and made sure” “in you” which refers to “the people within the Corinthian church”. The church members in Corinth were “made sure and firm” through the “testimony” of Jesus.

When we contemplate these words from Paul, we understand the importance of the “confirmation” of Jesus Christ's “witness” for these church members. Not only did they need the “grace” of God given by Jesus, and God's “enrichment” in “all utterance and knowledge”, but they needed Jesus' “testimony” “confirmed” in their lives as well. We also, when we think it through, need these too - “grace, enrichment and testimony” from Jesus Christ, and may all who read these words know and receive these attributes from God.

Next time Paul pronounces “come behind in no gift” while “waiting for the coming of” “Jesus”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
