The
writer of Hebrews plead for his readers to “endure and sustain”
“the word of exhortation”
because he had “written a letter
unto” them
“in few words”,
and in chapter thirteen and verse
twenty-three of Hebrews the writer told his
readers “our
brother Timothy is set at liberty”
where we read:
The
verse begins, “Know
you that our
brother Timothy is set at liberty;”.
The writer
began with the words, “Know you”
which means “learn to know, get a knowledge of, perceive,
understand and feel” “that our
brother”
or “a fellow believer who is united to another by the bond of
affection” “Timothy”
which means “honoring God and was a resident of Lystra, apparently,
whose father was a Greek and mother a Jewess; he was Paul's traveling
companion and fellow laborer” “is
set at liberty”
which means “is let go, dismissed, detained no longer, free and
released”. The writer shared with his readers concerning the
“freedom” of “Timothy”
the young protege of Paul the Apostle.
The
verse goes on to say, “with
whom, if he come shortly, I will see you.”.
The writer
continued with the words, “with whom”
which means
“the writer after or behind shall”,
“if he come shortly”
which means “in case Timothy appears, comes forth, shows himself or
makes his appearance” “I will see
you” or
“the writer shall behold and look at his readers”. The writer
knew there was the possibility that he would see his readers if
Timothy came to see him.
When
we meditate upon these words in Hebrews, we can almost sense the
excitement the writer has toward Timothy's freedom. Not only would he
be able to see Timothy, but there was a strong possibility that the
writer would be reacquainted with his readers as well. Jesus Christ
loves to have His people concerned for one another, and the
opportunity for the writer to see Timothy and his readers was in line
with having great fellowship in the family of God. Let us realize the
value in caring for one another, and should one of our brothers and
sisters in Christ be “freed”, let us rejoice in the Lord over
their “liberty”.
Next
time the writer tells his readers to “salute
all them that have the rule over you”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
