A King Taking Account of His Servants - Matthew 18:23

Matthew the apostle wrote how Peter asked Jesus, “Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus said unto him, I say not unto you, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven”, and in chapter eighteen and verse twenty-three of his book, Matthew shares how Jesus began to share how, “the kingdom of heaven” is “likened unto a certain king” where we read:

Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king,

which would take account of his servants.

The verse reads, Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, ...”. Matthew began with the word, “therefore” or “wherefore, by reason of and thereby” “is the kingdom” which refers to “is the royal power, kingship, dominion and rule”“of heaven” which refers to “the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings” “likened” which means “made like, compared and similar” “unto a certain king” or “to a particular leader of the people, prince, commander and lord of the land”. Matthew shared how Jesus began to share how “heaven's royal power” was like a “particular” ruler.

The verse goes on to say, “... which would take account of his servants.” Matthew added the words, “which would take account” or “who would settle accounts and reckon” “of his servants” which means “with the certain king's bondmen or men of servile conditions”. Matthew wrote how this “certain king” reckoned with his “bondmen or slaves”.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see Jesus begin to share another story that will bring forth “kingdom principles”. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person, and when He begins a story about a “certain king”, everyone reading these words should pay particular attention to what He has to say. We shall learn more in our next verse, but suffice it for now to know that God wants people to know about His “rule” and the pending “judgment” that is to come.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus shares how the king, “had begun to reckon” and “one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
