Bowing at Jael’s Feet - Judges 5:27

In the book of Judges we learned, “Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying, praise you the LORD for the avenging of Israel,  … Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent. He asked water, and she gave him milk; she brought forth butter in a lordly dish. She put her hand to the nail, and her right hand to the workmen's hammer; and with the hammer she smote Sisera, she smote off his head, when she had pierced and stricken through his temples”, and in chapter five and verse twenty-seven of Judges, we learn how Deborah and Barak sung, “at her feet he bowed” where we read,

At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: at her feet he bowed, he fell: 

where he bowed, there he fell down dead.

The verse reads, “At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: at her feet he bowed, he fell:” The writer began with the words, “at her feet he bowed” which means “at her, Jael’s, physical feet he, Sisera, crouched, kneeled and became feeble and subdued”, “he fell” or “he, Sisera, was cast down, prostrate and overthrown”, “he lay down” which means “he, Sisera, rested, slept and stayed”: “at her feet he bowed” or again means “at her, Jael’s, physical feet he, Sisera, crouched, kneeled and became feeble and subdued”“. The writer shared how “Sisera” was cast down at the physical feet of “Jael”, rested and slept and was overthrown. 

The verse continues, “where he bowed, there he fell down dead.” The writer added the words, “where he bowed” which means “in the location and place he, Sisera, kneeled and became feeble and subdued”, “there he fell down dead” or “in that place or location he, Sisera, was cast down, prostrated and overthrown to the non-breathing,  lifeless and dead”. The writer shared how “Deborah and Barak” sung about how “Sisera” died in the place where he was cast down.

When we meditate the words in this verse, we see how “Deborah and Barak” included the “death” of “Sisera” in their song about the deliverance of Israel from the oppression of “Jabin”. God loves the people of Israel, and He will defend them through any means He deems necessary. God loves us as well, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days, He made the way through faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord” to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and provided with His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and give us the ability to fulfill our function in His Kingdom according to His perfect will and plan.
