Wise Ladies Answering Sizer’s Mother - Judges 5:29

In the book of Judges we learned, “Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying, praise you the LORD for the avenging of Israel,  … Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent. He asked water, and she gave him milk; she brought forth butter in a lordly dish. She put her hand to the nail, and her right hand to the workmen's hammer; and with the hammer she smote Sisera, she smote off his head, when she had pierced and stricken through his temples.  At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: at her feet he bowed, he fell: where he bowed, there he fell down dead. The mother of Sisera looked out at a window, and cried through the lattice, Why is his chariot so long in coming? why tarry the wheels of his chariots?”, and in chapter five and verse twenty-nine of Judges, we learn how Deborah and Barak sung,“her wise ladies answered her” where we read,

Her wise ladies answered her, yes, she returned answer to herself,

The verse reads, “Her wise ladies answered her, …” The writer began with the words, “her wise ladies” which means “her, the mother of Sisera’s, skilled, shrewd, crafty, cunning and wily noblewomen and princesses” “answered her” or “responded, spoke and uttered tunefully to her, the mother of Sisera”. The writer shared how “the mother of Sisera’s” shrewd and cunning noble women responded to her. 

The verse continues, “… she returned answer to herself,” The writer added the words, “she returned answer” which means “she, the mother of Sisera, refreshed, gave back and restored a response, utterance, speech and word” “to herself” or “to her, the mother of Sisera’s, own self”. The writer shared how “Deborah and Barak” sung of “the mother of Sisera” repeating to her own self her “wise ladies’” words and utterances. . 

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how “the mother of Sisera” had shrewd and cunning women who spoke to her concerning “Sisera” not coming home, and she repeated their utterances to her own self. The delay for “Sisera” not returning was unknown by his mother’s shrewd companions, and when they spoke, she repeated their words to herself for comfort. Those words would not last for long, however, God wants us to be in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to guide us into all truth and to help us not only to know the commentary of others but also to repeat them to ourselves about the great work God has done. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Psalm 46:8)
