In the book of Judges we learned how, “it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites. That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus says the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage”, and in chapter six and verse nine of Judges, we learn how Jehovah God said, “I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians”, where we read,
And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drove them out from before you, and gave you their land;
The verse reads, “And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, …” The writer began with the words, “and I delivered you” which means “and I, Jehovah God, rescued and saved you, the offspring of Israel” “out of the hand of the Egyptians” or “from the power, might and authority belonging to the Egyptians whose name means ‘land of the Copts’ and was the people who lived in a country at the northeastern section of Africa, adjacent to Palestine, and through which the Nile flows”, “and out of the hand” which means “and from the power, might and authority” “of all that oppressed you” or “belonging to each, the whole and everyone of the people who afflicted, crushed, forced and distressed you, Israel”. The writer shared how Jehovah God reminded the people of “Israel” of how He rescued and saved them from the power of the people of “Egypt” and the might of everyone who afflicted and distressed them.
The verse continues, “… and drove them out from before you, and gave you their land;” The writer added the words, “and drove them out” which means “and expelled, tossed away and thrust them, the oppressors, apart” “from before you” or “separate and apart from the front and presence of you, Israel”, “and gave you their land” which means “and granted, bestowed and assigned to you, Israel, their, the oppressor’s, ground, territory, region and district”. The writer shared how Jehovah God expelled the oppressors of “Israel” from their presence and granted and bestowed upon them the oppressor’s territory.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how Jehovah God reminded the people of Israel about how He rescued and saved them from the people who lived in the land of “Egypt” and from everyone who afflicted them. He forced them out of their land within the presence of “Israel” and bestowed it upon “Israel”. “The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof, the world, and they that dwell therein” (See Psalm 24:1), and He is able to give it to whomever He wills. God wants us to have this type of close relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we believe and trust tin Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to guide us into all truth and give us the ability to trust in Him regardless of the “oppressors” who come our way. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:37)
