When the Children of Israel Cried Unto the LORD - Judges 6:7

In the book of Judges we learned how, “Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD”, and in chapter six and verse seven of Judges, we begin to learn what happened, “when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD”, where we read,

And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites,

The verse reads, “And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD …” The writer began with the words, “and it came to pass” which means “and the following happened and occurred”, “when the children of Israel” or “at the time and moment the offspring and progeny belonging to Israel whose name means ‘God prevails” and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob” “cried unto the LORD” which means “called for help, summoned and loudly proclaimed to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The writer shared how the offspring of “Israel” summoned Jehovah God and called out to Him for help. 

The verse continues, “… because of the Midianites,” The writer added the word, “because” which means “since and on account” “of the Midianties” or “pertaining to the Midianites or Midian whose name means ‘strife’ and was the son of Abraham by Keturah and progenitor of the tribe of Midianites or Arabians and the tribe that descended from Midan”. The writer shared the reason that the offspring of “Israel” called out for help from Jehovah God was on account of the onslaught of the “Midianites”.  

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the progeny of “Israel” summoned Jehovah God and called out for His help once again. The oppression of the “Midianites” caused them to need help from God, and when we need God’s help, we call out to Him as well. God hears us and knows we need Him before we realize it, and this is one of the reasons He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days. When we submit to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to that truth so we are wise enough to call out to Him on a constant basis for our time of need. (See Philippians 4:19)
