Jesus the High Priest Called of God Hebrews 5:10

The Hebrew writer showed Jesus to be superior to the prophets of old, the angels and creation, and he declared Him to be our “rest” and above all previous “high priests”. Jesus became “the author of eternal salvation unto all that obey him” because He was the “perfect high priest” who “learned obedience by the things he suffered”. In chapter five and verse ten of Hebrews, the writer declares Jesus to “an high priest” who is “called of God” where we read:

Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

The verse begins, “Called of God an high priest...” The writer began with the words, “Called” which means “spoken to, addressed, accosted and saluted” “of God” which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “an high priest” which means “the chief priest”. Jesus was “addressed and saluted” by “God” Himself as the “great high priest” among men.

The verse goes on to say, “ ...after the order of Melchisedec”. The writer continued, “after the order” which means “down from, throughout, according to and along the arrangement, succession, rank and position” “of Melchisedec” whose name means “king of righteousness” and was “the king of Salem and priest of the most high God who lived in the days of Abraham”. Jesus was not only “called” by God of be “the great high priest”, but also was of the distinct “order” of the priestly line of “Melchisedec”.

When we consider these words in Hebrews, we understand the significance of God choosing Jesus. Jesus was “God incarnate” which means He was “God come in the flesh”, and He thereby needed no succession from the priestly “order” of Levi. His “choosing” was “after the order of Melchisedec” who had no predecessor. Jesus is our “great high priest” the “perfect” One to intercede on our behalf.

Next time the writer shares about “many things” which are “hard to be uttered”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
