Ordained to Offer Gifts and Sacrifices Hebrews 8:3

The writer of Hebrews shared how Jesus is “a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man”, and in chapter eight and verse three of Hebrews the writer shares how “every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices” where we read:

For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices:
wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.

The verse begins, “For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices:”. The writer began with the words, “For every” which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore each, all, the whole and everyone of the” “high priest” or “chief of priests” “is ordained” which means “appointed, set in place, put, constituted and rendered” “to offer” or “to bring, carry, present and put forth” “gifts” which refers to “presents and offerings” “and sacrifices” or “offerings such as victims”. The reason “priests” were commissioned and “appointed” was to “offer” “presents and sacrificial offerings” to God.

The verse continues, “wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.”. The writer added the word, “wherefore” or “for this cause, reason and account” “it is of necessity” which means “what one can not do without, indispensable and what ought to be done according to the law of duty”, “that this man” or “this particular person” “have somewhat” which means “a certain thing” “also to offer” or “even and indeed to bring, carry, present and carry forth”. Because the “priests” on earth were commissioned to “offer gifts and sacrifices”, Jesus also was “appointed” to offer a “certain things” in heaven.

When we consider these words in Hebrews, we see how Jesus fulfilled the duties of “a priest” in heaven even as did the earthly “priests”. Because there was a need on earth for “offerings and sacrifice” for sins, there also was a need for the same in heaven. Jesus fulfilled this ministry when He presented Himself as the perfect “offering and sacrifice”, and we are the beneficiaries of His wonderful service.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see the writer share, “if he were on earth, he should not be a priest”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
