My Blood of the New Testament - Matthew 26:28

Matthew the apostle wrote as Jesus and His disciples, were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink you all of it”, and in chapter twenty-six and verse twenty-eight of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus said, “this is my blood of the new testament” where we read:

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

The verse reads, For this is my blood of the new testament, ...” Matthew began word, “for” which means “because, since and on account that” “this is my blood” or “the cup is Jesus' blood” “of the new testament” which means “of the new kind, unprecedented, novel, uncommon and unheard of disposition, arrangement and covenant”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the drink within the “cup” represented His “blood” which would be the beginning of a new “covenant” with God.

The verse goes on to say, “... which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” Matthew continued with the words, “which is shed” which means “that is poured out, bestowed and distributed largely” “for many” or “on behalf of a large, great number and group” “for the remission” which means “concerning and on account to release from bondage or imprisonment, forgiveness and pardon of the penalty” “of sins” or “pertaining to missing the mark, being mistaken, violating God's law and offense”. Matthew shared how Jesus said His “blood” was to be “poured out and distributed” to demonstrate forgiveness to large group of “sinful” people.

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we see the second half of Jesus' initiation of the ordinance of “Communion”. This portion was to drink from the “cup” which represented His “blood” that was “shed and poured out” on the behalf of people who were condemned to death because of of the sin in their lives. Jesus Christ came to the world to “shed His blood” and die for the “sin” of the world, and all who believe in Him, turn from their sin, and align themselves with the ways of God shall know not only the fulfillment of this “New Covenant”, but shall also inherit “everlasting life”.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus says, “I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
