John
the apostle
“was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and
one
sat on the throne. And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and
a sardine stone: and there
was
a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald”,
and he added,
“and round about the throne were
four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty
elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads
crowns of gold.”
He also saw, “out
of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and
there
were
seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven
Spirits of God”,
and in chapter four and verse six of Revelation John saw “a
sea of glass like unto crystal”
where
we read:
And
before the throne there
was
a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and
round about the throne, were
four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
The
verse reads, “And
before the throne there
was
a sea of glass like unto crystal:”
John
began with the words, “and
before the throne”
which means “and in the presence and front of the chair of state
which has a footstool and hence power belonging to Christ” “there
was a sea”
or “a long and large body of water”
“of glass” which
means “transparent glass” “like
unto crystal” or
“like the precious crystal stone”. John saw a “glass
crystal-like sea”
that proceeded from the “throne”
of God.
The
verse continues, “and
in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were
four beasts full of eyes before and behind.” John
added the words, ““and
in the midst”
which means “and within the middle” “of
the throne”
which means “of the chair of state which has a footstool and hence
power belonging to Christ”, “and
round about the throne”
or “and surrounding the chair of state which has a footstool and
hence power belonging to Christ”, “were
four beasts”
or “were four living beings like animals” “full
of eyes”
which refers to “filled with eyes for sight” “before
and behind” which
means “in front and in back of them”. John also saw these
“awesome beasts”
with “eyes
to see in the front and the back of their bodies” surrounding God's
“throne”.
When
we consider John's words in this verse, we see how John observed more
of the features and beings around the “throne” of God.
First, there was a “glass sea” like unto “crystal”
and then “four” living beings which were able to see with
eyes from their front and backsides. We might imagine how John was in
awe when He saw these things, and when we remember that Jesus wanted
Him to see them, we can know that Jesus desired to share something
wonderful with him. God desires to have a relationship with every
person so they may see these things some day, and when a person
yields their life to His Son Jesus, they shall receive Jesus' promise
to receive “everlasting life” in heaven with Him.
Next
time
we see the descriptions of the four beast which John saw,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
