John
the apostle saw the “throne”
of
God and all it's glory in heaven, and he shared,
“before
the throne there
was
a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and
round about the throne, were
four beasts full of eyes before and behind”.
He continued to describe the beasts as he wrote,“And
the first beast was
like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast
had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was
like a flying eagle.”
In chapter four and verse eight of Revelation John saw and heard “the
four beasts...day and night, saying, Holy, Holy, Holy”
where
we read:
And
the four beasts had each of them six wings about him;
and they
were
full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy,
holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
The
verse reads, “And
the four beasts had each of them six wings about him;
and they
were
full of eyes within:”
John
began with the words, “and
the four beasts”
which means “and the four living beings” “had
each of them”
or “every one of them held, owned and possessed”
“six wings” which
means “six
wings
like a bird” “about
him” or
“surrounding and around each living beast”; “and
they were full”
or “they were filled and swollen” “of
eyes within”
which refers to “eyes
on the inside”. John saw how each “living being” had “six
wings” which
were covered with “eyes”
all around them.
The
verse continues, “and
they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God
Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.” John
added the words, ““and
they rest not”
which means “the living beings do not cease nor take intermission
or recreation” “day
and night”
which means “throughout the daytime and the nighttime”, “saying”
or “uttering, proclaiming and declaring”, “Holy,
holy, holy”
or “pure, morally blameless and religiously and ceremonially
consecrated repeated three time” “Lord”
which refers to “he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which
he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the
Messiah” “God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “Almighty”
which means “he who holds sway over all things, ruler of all and
Omnipotent” “which
was” or
“who exists in the past” “and
is” which
means “who exists in the present” “and
is to come”
or “who exists in the future”. John shared how the “four living
beings” continuously and strongly declared the “eternal” God to
be “Holy,
Holy, Holy”
.
When
we think through John's words in this verse, we discover more about
the “four living beings” which surrounded the “throne of
God”. Not only do they have “six wings filled with eyes”,
but their position and function is to constantly declare God “Holy,
Holy Holy”. God is a “Holy” God, and He desires to
have a relationship with people. Because He is “Holy” a
relationship with Him is only possible through believing in the death
and resurrection of His Son Jesus. When people receive Jesus Christ
as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they shall have access to
this “Holy” God, and there is no other way to continue in
His presence. May all who read these words consider the “holiness”
of God and their unworthiness to stand before Him alone.
Next
time
we see what happens when “those
beasts give glory and honor and thanks to him that sat on the
throne”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
