John
the apostle continued to share the “Revelation”
which
was given to him by Jesus Christ through an angel, and he told how
he, “was
in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice,
as of a trumpet, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,
Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What you
see, write in a book, and send it
unto the seven churches which are in Asia;”. John
added the names of those churches which were, “unto
Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and
unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea”,
and he, “turned
to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven
golden candlesticks”.
In
chapter
one and verse thirteen of Revelation, John shared how, “in
the midst of the seven candlesticks one
like unto the Son of man” where
we read:
And
in the midst of the seven candlesticks one
like unto the Son of man,
clothed
with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a
golden girdle.
The
verse begins, “And
in the midst of the seven candlesticks one
like unto the Son of man,, ...” John
began with the words, “and
in the midst”
which means “in the middle and amongst” “of
the seven candlesticks”
or “the seven candles within a lamp stand or candelabrum” “one
like unto”
which means “a person similar, corresponding to and resembling”
“the
Son of Man”
or “the Son of God as a human being”. John saw “the Son of God”
or Jesus who resembled a human being.
The
verse continues, “clothed with a garment down to the
foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.” John
added the word, “clothed with a garment”
which means “arrayed and endued with clothing” “down
to the foot” which means “that
reached or came down to the ankles or feet”, “and girt
about” or “and fastened as
with a girdle or belt” “the paps”
which means “the breast or chest” “with a golden
girdle” or “a gold covered
or overlaid belt with pockets like a purse”. John saw “the
Son of Man”, Jesus, in
“clothing” which reached down to his “ankles and feet”, and
he had a “golden belt” around his chest.
When
we think through John's words in this verse, we see God revealing
Jesus to him. The things John saw are important to the “Revelation”
of Jesus Christ, and God purposed everything which was revealed even
as He has designed the “plan of salvation” for mankind. God
“reveals” Jesus to people so they may know He came to “save
them from their sins”, and those who “believe and trust” in
Him shall inherit “everlasting life”. John seeing Jesus
“clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the
paps with a golden girdle” should inspire everyone to seek to
see Him as well, and when they do, may they humble themselves and
receive Him as “Savior and Lord”.
Next
time
John shares how the “Son of Man's”, “head
and his hairs were white like wool”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
