John
the apostle saw
“four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the
throne, and worship him that lives for ever and ever, and cast their
crowns before the throne saying, You are worthy, O Lord, to receive
glory and honor and power: for you have created all things, and for
your pleasure they are and were created”,
and
in
chapter five and verse one of Revelation John “saw
in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written”
where
we read:
And
I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book
written
within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
The
verse reads, “And
I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written
within ...”
John
began with the words, “and
I saw”
which means “and John perceived, looked upon, discerned, noticed
and discovered” “in
the right hand”which
means “in the right hand which represents honor or authority” “of
him” which
refers to “of God” “that
sat on the throne” or
“who was seated, occupied and dwelt upon the chair of state which
has a footstool and hence power belonging to Christ” “a
book”
which means “a small scroll or written document” “written
within”
or “that had letters delineated or formed inside of the book”.
John shared how he noticed writing within a “scroll” in God's
“right
hand” as
He sat upon His “throne”.
The
verse continues, “.. and
on the backside, sealed with seven seals.” John
continued with the words, “and
on the backside”
which means “on the back of the little book or scroll”, “sealed”
which means “closed or coverd up” “with
seven seals”
or “with seven signet inscriptions or impressions by which
anything is confirmed, proved and authenticated”. John noticed that
the book had “seven
seals”
or “signet impressions” on the outside that were meant to prevent
anyone except the authorized person from opening it.
When
we consider John's words in this verse, we can imagine this “book”
or “scroll” within God's hand as He sat upon His “throne”.
This was an important “scroll” as it was “sealed”
“seven”
times to insure that no one except the one authorized to open it
would do so. Often “scrolls” of this type were rolled up and
“sealed”
by using melted wax which was dripped over the final crease and a
“signet ring” would be pressed into it which indicated the owner
of the document. The “scroll” John saw had “seven”
“signet seals” which is the number of completion or perfection,
and we shall see God's desire for every person to receive the
benefit of this important document. All who receive His Son Jesus as
their personal “Savior and Lord” shall benefit through this
important document.
Next
time
John shares how he, “saw
a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open
the book...”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

tomorrow…there is more…
