Jesus Christ the Faithful Witness Revelation 1:5

As John the apostle continued to share the “Revelation” given to him by Jesus Christ through an angel, he wrote, “John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne”, and in chapter one and verse five of Revelation, John shares how “grace and peace” comes from, “Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness” where we read:

And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

The verse begins, “And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth.” John began with the words, “and from Jesus” which means “by way and means of the one whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” and is “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “Christ” or “the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of God”, “who is the faithful” or “that is the one who shows himself worthy of trust in the transaction of business, the execution of commands and the discharge of official duties” “witness” which means “the martyr, record and spectator of anything”, “and the first begotten” or “first-born” “of the dead” which means “pertaining to the one who has breathed his last, is lifeless, deceased, departed, destitute of life, inactive and inanimate”, “and the prince” or “the ruler, commander, chief and leader” “of the kings” which means “pertaining to the leaders of the people, commanders and lords of the land” “of the earth” or “the arable land as opposed to the sea or water, the countries, land enclosed with fixed boundaries, tracts of land, territories or regions”. “Jesus Christ” is not only the “true and worthy of trust” “beholder and observer” but also the “first” person who was raised from the dead on His own and “commander and lord” over all the “rulers and commanders” in the world.

The verse continues, “... Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,” John added the words, “unto him” or “toward Jesus” “that loved us” which means “who welcomed, entertained, was fond of, well pleased with and contended for those who believe and trust in Him”, “and washed us” or “bathed and cleansed those who believe and trust in Him” “from our sins” which means “away, separated and departed from our missing of the marks, errors, wrongs, mistakes and wanderings from the path of uprightness and honor” “in his own blood” or “in Jesus' own bloodshed by violence, slaying and murder”. “Jesus” not only “loved” people who believe and trust in Him, but also “cleansed” them from their “wrong and sinful ways” through His own “bloodshed” on the cross.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we see how the origin of “grace and peace” is from Jesus who loves people so much that He gave His own “blood” to save them from their sins. “Jesus” who is the “trustworthy” “witness”, “first born” from “the dead” and ruler over all the “rulers” in the world, cared so deeply for people who were separated from God, that He gave His life for their “reconciliation”. This same “Jesus” was given “Revelation” from God and sent it through an angel to John the apostle so that we might read and know these things today. “Jesus” is the “faithful witness”, and the testimony of His “love” and “bloodshed” demonstrates His desire for every person to receive Him as “Savior and Lord”.

Next time we shall see John share how Jesus has, “made us kings and priests unto God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
