After
John the apostle saw the vision of Jesus in chapter one of
“Revelation”,
he began to write to the “seven
churches in Asia”. He
started with the church located in “Ephesus”,
then the “church
of Smyrna”,
the “church
in Pergamos” and
after commending the “church
in Thyatira”
he told them, “I
have a few things against you, because you suffer that woman Jezebel,
which calls herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants
to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols” and
he added, “Behold,
I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her
into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. But that
which you have already
hold fast till I come. And he that overcomes, and keeps my works unto
the end, to him will I give power over the nations”. In
chapter
two and verse twenty-seven of Revelation, John shared how Jesus told
them how He “shall
rule them with a rod of iron” where
we read:
And
he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter
shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
The
verse begins, “And
he shall rule them with a rod of iron;”
John
began with the words, “and
he shall rule them”
which means “Jesus shall govern, nourish and supply the nations”
“with
a rod”
or “with a staff, walking stick or branch” “of
iron”
which means “made of iron”. Jesus shared how He and those to whom
He “gives
power”
shall “govern” over the “nations”
with a providing and protecting “staff” made of “iron”.
The
verse goes on to say,
“as
the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I
received of my Father.”
John
added the words, “as
the vessels”
or “as household utensils, chosen instruments and domestic gear”
“of
a potter” which
means “pertaining to things made of the earth and clay” “shall
they be broken
to
shivers” which
means “the household utensils will be crushed to pieces, trampled
upon and shattered”: “even
as I receive”
which means “in the same and like way Jesus laid hold upon, carried
away, claimed and procured” “of
my Father” which
refers to “Jesus' progenitor and transmitter who is Almighty God”.
When
we consider John's words in this verse, we see how Jesus shall
“govern over” the “nations” of the world with an “iron”
rule. No one shall be able to defend against Him, and Jesus' “rule”
shall reign. God Almighty desires a relationship with every person
regardless to which nation they belong, but if that person rejects
His Son Jesus as “Savior and Lord”, He shall “rule and reign”
with power and might over them. May all who read these words know and
understand the power and authority of the Lord Jesus.
Next
time
John writes how Jesus tells the “church
of Thyatira” “I will give him the morning star”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
