The beloved physician Luke wrote how, “God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twelve of the book of Acts Luke shared from Paul's, “body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them” where we read:
So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons,
and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
The verse begins, “So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, ...”: Luke began with the words, “so that from his body” which means “ insomuch, therefore and wherefore apart and separate from Paul's physical body” “were brought unto the sick” or “were adduced or superinduced to people who were weak, feeble, without strength and powerless” “handkerchiefs” which means “cloths for wiping perspiration from the face and for cleaning the nose and also used in swathing the head of a corpse” “or aprons” which refers to “linen coverings which workmen and servants were accustomed to wear”. Luke shared how “cloths for wiping one's face” and “linen covering” for servants or workmen that came from “Paul's body” were taken to people who were ill, feeble and infirm.
The verse goes on to say, “... and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.” Luke continues with the words, “and the diseases” or “and the sicknesses, maladies and infirmities” “departed from them” which means “left and separated from the people who had them”, “and the evil spirits” or “and the labor filled, annoying and wicked demons who were conceived as inhabiting the bodies of men” “went out of them” which means “left and departed from the people who had them”. Luke shared how the “sicknesses and wicked spirits” left the people who had them when they were touched by the “handkerchiefs and aprons” that came from “Paul's” body.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how God's spirit and miracles were so flowing through “Paul” that even “handkerchiefs and aprons” that came from his body healed the sick and cast out demons from people who had them. God was working thru “Paul” to share His “gospel” message of salvation through His Son Jesus. Jesus said, “these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” (See Mark 16:17-18), and “Paul” was operating in the fullness of God's message and miracles. God loves people, and His desire is to “save” every person who believes and trusts in His Son Jesus. When they submit themselves to Him, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life which is the greatest miracle of all, even greater than those performed by “handkerchiefs and aprons”.
Next time Luke shares how, “certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
