The beloved physician Luke wrote, “while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were you baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spoke with tongues, and prophesied”, and in chapter nineteen and verse seven of the book of Acts Luke shared how, “all the men were about twelve” where we read:
And all the men were about twelve.
The verse reads, “And all the men were about twelve.”: Luke began with the words, “and all the men” which means “and the sum total of the male human beings” “were about twelve” or “was around twelve men in number”. Luke shared how there were “twelve” disciples in Ephesus who believed in Jesus were “baptized” in the Holy Spirit.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn that it was twelve men to whom “Paul” shared about believing in Jesus Christ and were “baptized” in the Holy Spirit. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with everyone who will believe and trust in His Son Jesus, then He will fill them with His Holy Spirit and use them in His Kingdom to share with others about His saving grace. Those who are wise will follow the “twelve disciples” at “Ephesus” and receive all God has for them in their lives.
Next time Luke shares how Paul, “went into the synagogue, and spoke boldly for the space of three months”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
