Oh the call of children's voice
the ones about their play
from ashes ashes duck duck goose
of games which they assay
Where thoughtless acts of joyful deeds
the normal yields of life
and endless days of toil and fret
resist travail and strife
Oh causeless times of tranquil peace
where minds have not unrest
and endless laughter reigns and rules
reminders of life's best
From high voice shrills to daunting screams
of frightening crests of waves
and fingerlings strung through the sand
of castles portend made
And oh the joy of things once known
now vanquished thus in sounds
of fearful words and daunting news
throughout the world abounds
Where once was laughter, joy and calm
most lavishly supplied
replaced by dreadful fear and hate
that cause most men to hide
But ear laid low attentive still
to hear the chiming tunes
of children playing with their friends
ignoring lifelong wounds
