Paul
the apostle warned the Corinthian church members to “let
no man deceive himself”
because “if any man among”
them “seems to be wise in this world”
he was to “let him become a fool,
that he may be wise”,
and in chapter three and verse nineteen of
First Corinthians, Paul shared how
“every man's work shall be made
manifest”
where we read:
For
the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.
For it
is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
The
verse begins, “For
the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.”
Paul began
with the word, “For” which
means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore” “the wisdom”
or “the broad and full of intelligence which is used of the
knowledge of very diverse matters and skill in the management of
affairs” “of this world”
or “this present circle of the earth and aggregate of earthly
things” “is foolishness”
which means “silliness and absurdity” “with
God” or
“alongside the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God
the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. The world's
“wisdom”
is “silly and absurd” to God Almighty.
The
verse goes on to say, “For
it is written, He takes the wise in their own craftiness.”.
Paul
continued with the word, “For”
which means
“even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore”
“it is written” or
“expressed in written characters in the sacred book of the Old
Testament”, “He takes”
or “God grasps with the hand, captures and entraps” “the
wise”
which means “the skilled, expert, cultivated and learned people”
“in their own”
or “within the same” “craftiness”
which means “cunning, good sense, prudence, undertaking and
carrying on affairs”. Paul employed Job chapter five and verse
thirteen as a reference to how God “captures and entraps” the
“wise” in
their own “cunning ways” and “carrying on of affairs”.
When
we consider these words from Paul, we begin to understand the
superior “wisdom” of God over man's. The “wisest”
of men cannot compare to the “wisdom” of God, and
whenever people attempt to demonstrate their “wisdom” to
God, it is as “silliness and absurdity” to Him. Jesus Christ came
into this world to save people from their sins, and this was the
fulfillment of the “wisdom” of God. Though people share their
“wise” ideas, none of them shall ever provide the “eternal
salvation” God provides to all who believe in, trust in, rely upon
and cling to His Son Jesus.
Next
time Paul shares how “the
Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
