As
Paul the apostle continued to share with the church members of
Corinth concerning the “wisdom of the
world”
versus the “wisdom of God”,
he declared, “the Lord knows the
thoughts of the wise, that they are vain”,
and in chapter three and verse twenty-one
of First Corinthians, Paul told the Corinthians
“let no man glory in men”
where we read:
Therefore
let no man glory in men. For all things are yours;
The
verse begins, “Therefore
let no man glory in men.” Paul
began with the word, “Therefore”
which is a
conclusion world that means “so that, insomuch that and wherefore”
“let no man”
or “do not permit or allow any person to” “glory”
which means “vaunt, boast, joy or rejoice” “in
men” which
refers to “human beings whether male or female”. The Corinthian
church members were not to be giving “glory, honor or credit” to
“men” or
“people” for the “gospel”
to which they believed.
The
verse continues, “For
all things are yours;”. Paul
added the word, “for” which
means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore” “all things” or
“each, every, any, the whole and everyone” “are
yours”
which means “are the Corinthian church members”. God supplied the
“wisdom”
of “eternal salvation” for the Corinthians, and though people
were used to share the message, “all
things”
pertaining to the “gospel” of Jesus Christ were already theirs.
When
we think through these words from Paul, we see how God is the one who
is to receive the “glory” for His great work of “salvation”.
The Corinthian church members were identifying with men such as,
“Paul, Apollos and Cephas or Peter” instead of God
Himself. Jesus Christ was sent by God to save people from their sins.
He died for everyone and was raised from the grave three days later
for the same. This was “God's wisdom” for “eternal
salvation”, and the men He used to share that message were
simply “messengers”. The “good news” of “everlasting
life” is available to all who will “believe”, and
should God use a person to tell others about it, “to God be the
glory, great things He has done”.
Next
time Paul shares how “all
things are”
the Corinthian church members, “whether
Paul, or Apollos or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, of
things present, or things to come” have
presented them,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
