Screeches in the Silent Place

While lonesome walk observing winds
what be that sound bizarre
a screeching noise from wooded place
that drew my thoughts afar

A quest now bent upon my mind
discover that within
this forest racket volume raised
by myst'ry thickened gin

Thus peer within the treelined brush
mine eyes and ears attune
to my surprise a blackened flock
of grackles, crows and goons

With tweeting sounds and scratching caws
the hidden birds did chime
their conversations unbeknown
to n'er but one mankind

Then drawn in far with deep inspect
one bird did cackle loud
as though in panic deepened grief
cried louder than the crowd

And down below one damaged fowl
lie on the ground beneath
with twitching wing and fainted breath
closed eyes and summoned grief

For twas it's life that now be gone
that caused onlooking yak
for once the spirit didst depart
t'would never more be back

Broke-hearted pain the creature stare
did flap and screech in pain
with sighing woes and misery
t'would never see again

The notion caught my inner soul
mine eyes began to weep
with poor winged foul identified
for loss of love asleep

And groan did I what men had lost
and screeched within their hearts
their screech from inner wooded place
while love of life depart

For damaged words did haunt their minds
of parents, foes and friends
each one of them did strike them down
thus stripping joy within

Their deepened feelings long been lost
now desperately alone
the quiet cackles of their heart
now silent and unknown

And none doth care their loneliness
with apathy doth share
nor gaze upon their longing face
that someone look with care

To hear them in their crying state
their shame, depression, woe
while hope be dashed by bygone loves
forgotten past unknown

Their blackened trail has led them far
to lie upon grief's floor
the outward quiet deep despair
that led them to death's door

Thus peer within the treelined brush
thine eyes and ears attune
to see and hear their screeching hearts
that life of grief hath hewn
