Paul
the apostle told the Corinthian church members that he “sent
Timothy”
to them who was his “beloved son, and
faithful in the Lord”.
“Timothy”
was to “bring”
the church members “into remembrance
of” his
“ways which be in Christ” as
he taught “every where in the
church”.
In chapter four and verse eighteen of
First Corinthians, Paul referred to how “some” of the church
members in Corinth “are puffed up”
where we read:
Now
some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you.
The
verse begins, “Now some are puffed
up, ...”
Paul began
with the word, “Now” which
means “moreover and”, “some”
or “certain ones” “are puffed up”
which means “are inflated, blown up, proud and bearing themselves
loftily”. “Certain ones” of the church members in Corinth were
acting “proudly”.
The
verse continues, “... as
though I would not come to you.”
Paul added
the words, “as though” which
means “like or even as” “I would
not come” or
“that Paul would not appear and go” “to
you” or
“to the church members”. The reason some of the people within the
church were “puffed up”
was because they thought Paul would not revisit them.
When
we consider these words from Paul, we see how “pride” once again
worked its way into the church of Corinth. There were “certain”
people within the church who were acting “proudly” because they
believed Paul would not “appear” to them again. Even though the
Corinthians were introduced to Jesus by Paul, they somehow thought he
would not revisit them. Paul addressed not only this untruth, but
also the “pride” that was associated with their belief in it. May
God Almighty make us aware should we be “puffed up” in any
manner especially if the reason is not true.
Next
time Paul shares how he “will
come to you shortly” them,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
