“None of
the princes of this world knew” the
“wisdom”
Paul and his companions shared concerning the “gospel
of Jesus Christ”
because if they did, “the would not
have crucified the Lord of glory”.
In chapter two and verse nine of First
Corinthians, Paul the apostle continued his letter by sharing how he
and his companions “speak the wisdom
of God in a mystery”
where we read:
Now we
have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is
of God;
that
we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
The
verse begins, “Now
we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which
is of God;” Paul
began with the word, “Now”
which means “moreover and” “we
have received”
or “have taken in hand, laid hold of, claimed, procured and
apprehended”, “not the spirit”
which refers to “the rational spirit, the power by which one feels,
thinks and decides” “of the world”
which means “the circle of the earth with all its endowments,
riches, advantages and pleasures”, “but”
which is a
disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be written
takes precedence over what was just stated”
“the spirit”
or “the rational spirit, the power by which one feels, thinks and
decides” “which is of God”
which means “out and by the Godhead bodily and trinity which is
comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”.
Paul and his companions “took hold of” “the
spirit”
that God provided and not the “world's spirit”.
The
verse goes on to say, “
that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.”.
Paul
continued with the words, “that we
might know” which
means “that Paul and his companions may perceive, notice, discern
and discover” “the things that are
freely given” which
means “to do something pleasant or agreeable, do a favor for and
gratify” “to us”
which means “Paul, his companions and the Corinthian believers”
“of God” which
refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God
the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Paul knew because
he received “the spirit of God”
they could “know the things”
which God provides openly.
When
we meditate upon these words from Paul, we understand the value of
the “spirit of God”. Without it, we do not have the
“things that are freely given” by Him. The “spirit of
the world” only provides temporary “things” which
may be known, however, “the spirit of God” looks toward
the eternal. Jesus Christ came to give us access to “the spirit
of God”, and when we receive Him as Savior and Lord, we gain
the “spirit of God” and the knowledge of the things
“freely given” by Him.
Next
time Paul shares about “words
which the Holy Ghost teaches”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
