In This We Groan 2 Corinthians 5:2

Paul the apostle told the church members in Corinth, “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens”. In chapter five and verse two of Second Corinthians, Paul told the church members, “in this we groan”, where we read:

For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

The verse begins, “For in this we groan,...” Paul began with the word, “for” which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore” “in this” which means “in the bodies that to be dissolved” “we groan” which refers to “Paul and his companions sighing, murmuring, praying inaudibly with grief, groaning, grudging and sighing”. Paul and his companions “sighed with grief” over the state of their “dissolving temporal bodies”.

The verse goes on to say, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: Paul continues with the word, “earnestly desiring” which means “longing for and pursuing” “to be clothed upon” or “to put on over” “with our house” which means “with Paul and his companions earthly body” “which is from heaven” or “from the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”. Paul and his companions passionately desired to “put on” their heavenly bodies “from heaven”.

When we consider these words of Paul, we see how he and his companions had a desire to “put on” their heavenly bodies. The temporal earthly bodies were destined to be destroyed, and the “eternal” body promised would not have the troubles and difficulties of the earthly ones. Jesus desires to clothe all who will believe and trust in Him with a “heavenly body”, and when our “earthly bodies” make us “groan”, we should keep in mind that His plan for an “eternal, indestructible” body shall be fulfilled when we leave this “earthly tabernacle”.

Next time Paul tells the church members, “that being clothed we shall not be found naked”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
