Sufficiency of God 2 Corinthians 3:5

Paul the apostle told the church members in Corinth that he and his companions had “such trust through Christ toward God”, and in chapter three and verse five of Second Corinthians, Paul told the church members,“our sufficiency is of God”, where we read:

Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;

The verse begins, “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves;” Paul began with the words, “Not” which means “in no way” “that we are sufficient” or “that Paul and his companions are enough, meet or fit” “of ourselves” which refers to Paul and his companions “to think” or “to reckon, count, compute, calculate or count over” “anything” which means “some certain person or object” “as of ourselves” which refers to Paul and his companions. Paul and his companions knew they were not “enough or fit” to “reckon” for their own “confidence and trust” in God.

The verse goes on to say, but our sufficiency is of God; Paul added the words, “but” which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be written takes precedence over what was just stated, “our sufficiency” or “Paul and his companion's being “enough, meet or fit” “is of God” which means “is from the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Paul attributed his “being enough” to “God” Himself.

When we consider these words of Paul, we see how he would not receive “glory” or “credit” for having “confidence and faith” in God. He knew that he and his companions would have no “faith” or “trust” at all if God did not put it within them. In other words, to God be the glory for even having the “faith and trust” in Him. God desires “faith” to be within everyone, and should we be among those who simply do not believe, let us open our hearts to the Lord God who is able to put within us the “faith” He requires.

Next time Paul tells the church members how God has made he and his companions, “able ministers of the new testament”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
