The Glory of the Ministration of the Spirit 2 Corinthians 3:8

Paul the apostle told the church members in Corinth how the “glory” of the “ministration of death, written and engraved in stones, was glorious”. He added how “the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance”, and yet, that “glory was to be done away”. In chapter three and verse eight of Second Corinthians, Paul asked the church members “how shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious”, where we read:

How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?

The verse begins, “How shall not the ministration of the spirit ...” Paul began with the word, “how” or “in what way” “shall not the ministration” which means “would not the service and ministry of those who execute the commands of other and by the command of God proclaim and promote religion among men” “of the spirit” which refers to “the rational spirit and power by which the human being feels, thinks and decides ”. Paul challenged the church members to think about the “service of the spirit” within them.

The verse continues, ...be rather glorious Paul added the words, “be rather” which means “be more and to a greater, more willingly, readily and sooner degree”, “glorious” or “opinion, judgment, view, estimate, splendor and brightness”. Paul knew the “service” to the “spirit” within them versus the “outward” induction of the law would be superior.

When we consider these words of Paul, we see his encouragement to the church members to know the “superiority” of the “ministration of the spirit” to that which was “written upon stones”. Although the Old Covenant or Testament was perfect within itself, people could not keep it, so God took over and by His spirit the word is now “written upon the fleshly tablets” of people's heart. Jesus Christ desires to have a relationship with everyone, and He is willing to aid and assist anyone who is willing to believe. As we think about these things, let us rejoice in the fact that God Almighty is willing not only to make the offer of His New Covenant, but He also is willing to help all who call upon Him.

Next time Paul shares with the church members concerning, “the ministration of death”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
