The Much More Glorious 2 Corinthians 3:11

Paul the apostle told the church members in Corinth, “For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excels” as he shared concerning the difference between the Old and New Covenant, and in chapter three and verse eleven of Second Corinthians, Paul told the church members what happened, “if that which is done away was glorious”, where we read:

For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remains is glorious.

The verse begins, “For if that which is done away was glorious, ...” Paul began with the word, “for” or “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore” “if” which means “whether” “that which is done away” which means “rendered idle, unemployed, inactive, inoperative, deprived of full force, influence or power” “was glorious” or “of opinion, judgment, view, estimate, praise, honor, splendor and brightness”. Paul considered what it meant for the “glorious” Old Covenant to be “rendered idle and deprived of full force.

The verse continues, … much more that which remains is glorious. Paul added the words, “much more” which means “to a greater and by far more willing, ready and sooner degree than” “that which remains” or “the Covenant that abides, tarries and will not depart” “is glorious” which refers to “of opinion, judgment, view, estimate, praise, honor, splendor and brightness”. Paul shared how much greater the New Covenant was in “splendor, brightness, honor and praise”.

When we consider these words of Paul, we see how he desired for the church members to know the superiority of the New Covenant over the Old. Though the “glory” of the Old Covenant or Testament was “glorious”, the New was far greater. The difference was in the fulfillment of them. People could not keep the Old Covenant law, and yet, Jesus did. This gave access for all people to simply believe in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins and when they do, they shall inherit everlasting life. When a person realizes just what God has done to insure their access to His salvation, should it be any wonder that they should sing, “To God Be the Glory. Great Things He has Done!”

Next time Paul declares to the church members concerning, “if that which is done away was glorious”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,

Until tomorrow…there is more…
