The Seventh Angel Pours Out His Vial Revelation 16:17

As John continued to share concerning the events during the tribulation, He wrote about the antichrist, the false prophet and the angels who were involved in the reaping of the harvest of believers who received the Lord Jesus during that time. John wrote about the first, second, third, fourth and fifth angel pouring out their “vials filled with the wrath of God”, and he continued by writing, “And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon”. In chapter sixteen and verse seventeen of Revelation John shared what happened when “the seventh angel poured out his vial” where we read:

And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

The verse reads, And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; John began with the words, “and the seventh angel” which means “and the seventh messenger, envoy or one sent” “poured out” or “shed forth, bestowed and distributed largely” “his vial” which means “his shallow bowl filled with the wrath of God” “into the air” or “in the atmospheric region”. John watched as this “seventh angel” “distributed” his “shallow bowl full of God's wrath” into the “atmosphere”.

The verse goes on to say, “ and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. John added the words, “and there came which means “there went forth, proceeded, emitted, declared, spread and proclaimed” “a great voice” or “a loud, powerful, excellent, splendid, grand and stately sound and tone of speech, uttered words, language and tongue” “out of the temple” which means “away from the sacred edifice or sanctuary consisting of the Holy place and the Holy of Holies” “of heaven” which refers to “from region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”, “from the throne” or “away from the chair of state having a footstool and thereby showing kingly power or royalty”, “saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “it is done” or “it has come to pass, arisen, happened, appeared in history and come upon the stage.” John listened as a “loud and powerful voice” from God's “throne” in His “temple in heaven” proclaimed the “finality” of God's work.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we understand this to be the affirmation of God's work being accomplished upon the earth. Even as Jesus on the cross proclaimed, “It is finished”, this voice declares the “finished” work of God at this time. God desires to “save” every person who will yield their lives to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and when Jesus died on the cross for the “sins” of the world and was raised the third day afterward, the necessary constituent for “salvation” of man was accomplished. This final work after the “battle of Armageddon” is another reminder that God has “finished” His work to “save”, and those who are wise will submit to Him and receive His Son Jesus into their hearts and lives today.

Next time John shares how, “there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and a great earthquake, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
